Howdy all! Welcome back to the table this stormy (in the Ozarks) day. Lots to say, not lots of time due to my job…sooooo….off we go! 😉
First a little quote by Red from Shawshank Redemption ReDementia:
“There’s Not A Day Goes By I Don’t Feel Regret. Not because I’m in here, because you think I should. I look back on the way I was then: a young, stupid kid who committed that terrible crime. I want to talk to him. I want to try to talk some sense to him, tell him the way things are. But I can’t. That kid’s long gone, and this old man is all that’s left. I got to live with that.”

I have written 20 pieces or more about regret here…and will write 20 more…and it makes no difference. We need to do the best we can today and let the past regret leave us alone. We can’t change it anyway…
I do get what Red is saying, though…in 1,000,000 ways. Part of growing up on the spinning ball of violets and viruses we call Earth is wishing the current you could talk to the younger you and inform him or her. I would say at least the following:
“Hey You…Young Mark”:
- “Grow up!”
- “Waaaiiiit. Not THAT fast!”
- “Develop a habit of gratitude instead of only being grateful in retrospect!”
- “Save money every week, dude!”
- “Be nice to your friends from High School”
- “Don’t get student loans!!! You are working full time, dude, you can make it without them!”
- “Same for credit cards!”
- “Save those toys…they may be worth something someday.”
- “You are VERY wise marrying Susan! 😉 “
- “Oh yes…..and DON’T FORGET…talk to your parents a lot, especially in person. Life catches up on you and time flies….someday you won’t be able to.”
Having 1,000 hours of regret won’t change 1,000 milliseconds of time. But, since we can’t change the past, we march on.
I like the young me OK….I just wish he could be mentored by the older me.

Update: Facetime was nice…will try again tomorrow. Mom is still fine, laughing a lot and sleeping a lot more. Such is life and her situation…locked in Shawshank Re:Dementia
My health update: After almost a week now of coughing and high fever, I am doing much better now. No fever for 30 hours straight. I still need the cough to leave me alone, but all things considered! 🙂
FYI: From my hospital app:
Coronavirus (COVID-19)(PCR) Results Taken: 03/19/20 4:50 pm Not detected
Turns out my terrible fever and cough has just been a “non-specified seasonal upper-respiratory infection”. I am 30 hours fever free but will keep working from home longer because of the sensitive nature of my work. We are super careful that no illness has a path from us to our seniors. 🙂
Woot!
