But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord,
I wait for God my Savior;
my God will hear me. Micah 7:7
Applegate Family Trivia Time! Your prize? LOL…you think we fly around on company jets here at Digital Cornbread!?! No prize other than the satisfaction of knowing that you got the question right.
Question: What do the Applegate kids’ names have in common (my kids, at least)? (Miranda, Lindsey, and Phillip) All of them have exactly 7 letters in the names. Therefore:
…we hit the jackpot with our kids! 🙂
Today is 7/7! It must be a lucky day, right? I mean 7/7/2020 even looks lucky. However, we find ourselves in a global pandemic and worldwide recession (being generous calling it a recession…). I know, I know…this isn’t exactly the Black Death of the of the 1300s where hundreds of millions died…nearly everyone who caught the plague was killed by the plague…and most who tried to help them. We are still sitting at a very high rate of survivability compared to the plague. As the US and other industrailized nations test more and more people, we find that there are more and more cases out there, but the number of deaths is constant. I am NOT trying to downplay the pandemic…but I am trying to put it in perspective for you.
Enter another worldwide “pandemic” of sorts, although this one isn’t contagious. Dementia kills everyone it enters if something else doesn’t get them first. Everyone. The 5 million in the US who have it now? All dead within 3-20 years. 100% .Even the Black Death spared sizable numbers of the population.
We need a vaccine for the pandemic! Absolutely. Badly. I have at least 3 friends who have struggled with COVID-19, two of whom were hospitalized and I live in an land island where it isn’t common. It is real and it is deadly… However, I am sad and a tad angry that most all testing and research for a cure to dementia is either slow or has stopped during this pandemic. The thing ain’t gonna cure itself, folks!!! Sigh.
Sorry…I guess I am just grumpy because my website was down much of yesterday and I had even more time to think through the news than normal. Sigh. Exhaling loudly. Smiling again…
Thank you all for the kind words regarding us hitting a whopping 500 posts Friday! I wish the blog was unnecessary, but it isn’t. Thank you for being the best part of our little community here. 🙂
I am sure proud of my 7-letter-named kiddos on this 7/7. 🙂 They are a joy every day. Part of my goal in helping with pandemic response and with my work with the non-contagious, dementia “pandemic” response is an honest desire to give these gems a better life as they move into adulthood. Mom and the Sweet 17 weren’t “lucky”…maybe the next generation will hit all 7s for a cure. 🙁

Update: Nothing new to report. I look forward to breakfast with mom tomorrow 🙂
Dad Joke of the day:
Why is gambling banned in Africa? – Too many cheetahs!
Last note/disclaimer: I don’t believe, even a little bit, in chance and/or luck. However, it seems that way sometimes… Fortune maybe? Providence…definitely. I seldom, if ever, gamble. I don’t know that it is an explicit sin, particularly, but I know that I am a creature of habit who tends toward excess…so I avoid it. Plus, I am good with numbers and know the odds.
