Just a quick note on mom’s piano playing. Pardon the theological cliche with this, but mom playing the piano reminds me of Peter walking on the water in the Gospels. When he kept his eyes on Jesus, all went fine and his lake street trek proceeded. When he took his eyes off Jesus, he started to take a dive.
Mom used to read music well, but has always been much more comfortable playing to and with a singer in a face-to-face, back-and-forth relationship. Today she exclusively plays from “memory” with a co-star. She does, however, act like she is reading music with a “song book”…aka an upside down National Geographic or perhaps a devotional there that she looks at.
My advice: Keep your eyes on Jesus as you trod through these tough times caring for an Alzheimer’s-inflicted loved one and lean on trusted loved ones. He will truly sustain you.
