Posted 8/8/2024 on mom’s 80th birthday
Hi all! 🙂 I hope you are staying healthy, happy, and hydrated in this inferno of a summer! 🙂 I am doing fine. I just had a minute to drop in and share this picture:
The 13-year cicadas emerged from their slumber this year in the Ozarks and elsewhere. HERE is some nifty info about them. While I was visiting my mom’s grave today to pray and honor her 80th birthday, I saw this shell and it reminded me that mom had outgrown this old world and has flown high away from its sadness, disease and sin. That reality helped me shake off the sadness and join in the celebration with her vicariously.
This disease leaves our loved ones as a shell of their former self in most cases. Take for example my mom in 2019 here:
Then fast forward less than 5 years and see this version of the still wonderful mom (Note: I don’t post pictures that would embarrass her, but trust me, she was a shell of her former self. ):
So today I will celebrate mom’s new home with joy and gladness and with an eye heavenward to see her again some sweet day. She is away…duhhh…like a cicada. 😉

Here are some other pictures from my sunrise prayer time and celebration:
We are working on a fitting stone for her grave to replace the temporary one there now.
