Church is truly my “happy place”, but, as I mentioned a few days ago at the cornbread table, it is not because of the hyper-exuberance of the pastor, nor is it because of the lasers or the rocking band. It is my happy place because the Bible is opened up and I get to hear from God with fellow believers, many of whom struggle too. We sing together. We pray together. We have the Lord’s Super together. We learn and sharpen each other…together. We may even potluck together. It is a microcosm of what heaven will be someday, except with fellow sinners instead of those made perfect in heaven. Mom and most of the Sweet 17 look forward to this happier place just like I do.
I leave you with a reminder from one of the niftiest website/blogs around: Grace Gems:
Such a friend!
(Thomas Brooks, “Apples of Gold” 1660)
Proverbs 18:24, “There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” Such a friend is the Lord Jesus.
He is so a friend to every one of His people–as if He were a friend to none besides.
Jesus is . . .
an omnipotent friend,
an omniscient friend,
an omnipresent friend,
an all-sufficient friend,
a sovereign friend,
an immutable friend,
a watchful friend,
a loving friend,
a faithful friend,
a compassionate friend,
an intimate friend,
a friend in all cases and in all places,
our best friend!
“Whom He loves, He loves to the end!” John 13:1
