Today marks the one year anniversary of the blog! š Thank you very much for coming to my little cornbread table and many, many more thanks for your fine contributions! It has been a challenging year to say the least. I have been fortunate to tell my story on TV 3 or 4 times, radio 5 or 6 times and in multiple papers. The blog has over 6,300 subscribers and nearly 650 FB page likes. There are always many people on the website and folks seem to interact and read multiple pieces when they come, all of which makes me happy as we jointly try to make lemonade out of the artichokes that are this disease. I can’t thank you enough for the friendships, the joy, and the tears we have already shared and will continue to share as we press forward to #EndALZ .
Notes for year two:
- I need your input, your topic ideas, and your friendship. We are a team at this table. When you tell me “I love your blog”, I will holler right back at ya “I love your blog too!”.
- Please feel free to share posts anywhere and everywhere. I really appreciate that very much!
- As far as topic ideas, I have about 15 in the pipeline already partially written, so when you suggest an idea to me I will definitely act on the suggestion, but perhaps a week or two down the road. BUT, please keep them coming. Example topic starting later this month: “Dementia from Toe to Head”.
- Some housekeeping, I like to do periodically: When you see a word in bold, it is a clickable link that opens another tab that points to either the source from which the quote or concept came or a helpful extra reading link. The only way my organization would make money is through smile.amazon.com links for books, and then only if you choose SeniorAge as your charity of choice. I do put donation links for our organization and for the Alzheimer’s Association on pages sometimes too…but that is specifically for clicking on to donate. I don’t hide ads and the like. I, personally, will never collect money for me anyway…just for these two wonderful groups.
- Feel free to suggest resources I can add to the sidebar resources area.
- If you ever need me, call/text me at 417-955-2513 or email me at mark.applegate@senioragemo.org and I will respond ASAP. š
What a year! I sincerely hope a cure is found soon. I would love to find something that would reverse this mess, then sit down with mom and belly laugh at the challenges and fun of the last few years. I am hopeful…I really am.
I hope each and every one of you have a super weekend. One with lots of laughs, few tears, and a host of lasting memories! If you are a tired caregiver, know that you are not alone and you matter. You matter to me and each of our table sitters. Call the Alz.org hotline and ask about respite help. The toll free number is 800.272.3900 and is answered 24/7 by experts in the field. Digital Cornbread includes lots of folks that are praying for you and are willing to share burdens as best we can. May God richly bless your efforts and your loved one.
Again..thank you for all you do. Let’s make this next year one that we make a huge difference in this fight!
Happy One Year, friends!
-Mark
