Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!- 2 Corinthians 13:5
Wednesday already??? Where is this week going? Blink an eye and it is gone.
Just a quick thought brought to mind by my daughter’s car. I took it in for inspection last week…. and it failed. Not a big shocker there considering my car budget, but her’s is a solid car for the most part. It failed because its horn doesn’t honk. Sigh…who knew?!?! Now I am rushing the clock because her tag expires on the 30th.
Isn’t that just like dementia???
- The car didn’t tell me something was wrong, but I should have still noticed. Fancy cars self-diagnose. Not mine… People with dementia seldom admit it themselves….and often fight the thought.
- The little things (like a horn) matter and can cause big things (a wreck). In dementia, a simple UTI can kill. A bedsore that goes unnoticed can go septic.
- You get what you pay for– I typically bring my cars to a more inspection-friendly place. I will just leave this statement to speak for itself. 😉 However, not knowing doesn’t make the trouble go away. Such as it is with not getting checked if you have warning signs. Going to a doctor that doesn’t take it seriously does nobody any good…
- Start easy and work toward the harder– I tried to fix the horn myself. I replaced the 2 relevant fuses. Nothin’. I replaced a relay. Nada. Next step…checking the connections. However, I couldn’t find the horn! I know what they look like…and I YouTubed it, but no dice. There were no videos that showed it. One said it was behind the wheel accessible behind the wheel weld. I took off the tire in the 93 degree oven…and it wasn’t there. 🙁 Some things we can figure out and others demand a pro.
- Danger abounds– I considered taking the steering column apart, but remembered a loaded bomb exists there: the air bag. No thanks. There are so many dangers for your loved one with dementia…and for the caregiver… I could write a book on just the perils involved and I am not even a full-timer. Sigh.
- Some can play music until they break 🙁 – LINK and LINK are great examples….and so is this LINK…but NONE compare to this!!! LINK and even more so this one!!! LINK Serious, watch that one. 🙂 )
- Nothing lasts forever– I am thankful, beyond measure, for the promise of heaven for mom and for my brothers and sisters in Christ. No more dementia. No more broken cars. No more scrambling. No tears. No stress. No running for a cure because there will be nothing TO cure. Until then, we fight to find cures and love our family, friends, and neighbors along the way…

Update: Had a nice visit with mom last night for an hour our so. Hoping to again today if MY car doesn’t die on the way there. My car’s horn works, but the AC? Not so much…
5 Days until day one of my run. If you could donate even a little, it would be greatly appreciated. 🙂 Here is the link for that:
Last note: I go tomorrow morning to face the expert and pay to fix the horn. 🙁 I will let you know… Hoping for a cheap fix. but knowing the reality. 🙁 Pray for a cooler than expected Monday and Tuesday for my run. Sigh…hovering around 96-98 in the forecast both days.
