Mom had another great day yesterday. I hung out for a couple hours over supper. She was happy, smiled and said several strings of words. Sometimes it is the little things that we miss that are the best, or the worst.
I was just thinking again how much I missed her homemade pancake syrup. She had some concoction made with Karo syrup, real maple and about 3 other, unknown ingredients that was super tasty. I asked her for the recipe about 2+ years ago and she couldn’t remember it. She was the master of hiding memory loss and said something like “Oh, I just threw it together and didn’t really write it down (which is code words for I have no idea…I buy syrup at Wal-Mart)”. She had made that syrup at least 100 times for us. Now she would smile if I asked her and have no clue how to respond.
This is just a little reminder to, as I have said many times, document life. Write it down. Take care of your brain. Ask the doctor if you have concerns. Take care of your family legacy. Man…I miss mom’s syrup. 🙁 Stinkin’ disease!!!

Anyone out there have a good pancake syrup recipe for me? Post it in the comments section and I will give it a try! 🙂 If it is the best, I will place the coveted (by my family) Mom Seal of Approval on it! 🙂
That was a very touching slice of your life…thank you for sharing.
Thank you
Mark, try this:. PANCAKE SYRUP
1 C sugar
1 C karo syrup
1/2 C water
Combine in pan, bring to boil, until sugar is dissolved.
Remove from stove…add 1/2 t maple flavoring. Serve warm
Makes 2 cups
It won’t taste the same as what you remember because Mom didn’t make it, but it will be close. My mom made this syrup as well.
Sounds good to me! 🙂 I will try it.
Thank you
