Reports are from my sis that mom was in a pretty good mood today. Always love hearing her play piano regardless whether she hits all the notes.
The power of music to help or enhance memory is stunning. Sadly, mom says more cogent things singing than she does in conversation these days. Martin Luther understood something there… He set scripture to music to help his congregation memorize the words.
Don’t believe me that musical pathways are burned deeply, like
them or not?
Finish these sentences:
“The weather started gettin’ rough, the…..”
For you younger folks, how about “Who lives in a pineapple, under the sea?…”
From my 80’s friends ” Just the good ole boys, never ……”
I bet you knew at least one of these…
How are songs burned into pathways differently than other memories and how can we use this fact to fight the brain bandit? Why can I forget where I parked in 75% of my trips to Wal-Mart but I can’t get the last song I hear on the way to work out of my head for 6 hours?
We may need to manhandle this music monster and use it to our advantage as we help our loved ones fight for their minds… and their lives. It may be a bigger piece of the puzzle than we know.
