“But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!” –Matthew 6, Verses 20-23 (Stars like this verse too)
Happy Monday all! Where did the weekend go? I seemed to have misplaced it!
.
..
…
OH…there it is…37 days from now! Oh way…that is next weekend. 😉
Regardless…I pray your weekend was nice 🙂 Mine was very nice. I had a great Father’s day full of fun. I am thankful for my family every day.
Today I just had a quick thought: Losing stuff. I HATE losing stuff and its companion forgetting stuff (losing something from memory). I hate it. Therefore my life is a pristinely organized, well-oiled machine, right? Everything is in order. I have documentation everywhere in case I forget. Right? Sigh…no. I wish. 🙁
I was flipping through the blogs and/or news feeds this morning at pre-sunrise and noticed this headline:
Wirecard’s Disappearing $2.1 Billion
and then this one:
“Wirecard Says Missing $2.1 billion Likely Do Not Exist; Withdraws Results“
A billion dollars is a lot of coin. See:
They lost…uhhh…errr…misplaced over 2 billion bucks? That would be hard, physically…but we all know it is just some keystrokes away with a computer….until it isn’t.
What a strange world that we can lose things so easy…important things.
Enter dementia, stage left. 🙁
Until I first experienced dementia as an adult, it really didn’t stick as far as understanding just how incomprehensible this disease is. Think through with me some things you already know… Dementia, over time, slowly-but-surely “misplaces”some or all of the following:
- Every password and the password reset items
- Every account
- Every bank
- Every city
- Every name you know
- Your kids’ names
- How you met your spouse
- Your first kiss
- Your spouse’s name
- That you are married
- What married means
- The first fish you caught
- How to chew
- What you like to chew
- Every video game you beat
- What a video game is
- How to use a phone
- What a phone is
- What a ringing phone is telling you
- Judgement in decision-making
- How you drive to the preferred parking at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis
- How you drive to the Gateway Arch in St. Louis
- How you drive to St. Louis
- How you drive
- What a car is
- Your own name
- Your identity…who you are…or is it whom?
- The ability to distinguish between who and whom
- The letters W,H,O,M,A,N,D…and the rest
- So many other things that I cannot list them…
All because of this stinkin’ disease for which there are no life-extending treatments nor cures. Did mention that it kills millions yearly….and is increasing?
How can these things get stolen…or just disappear? It is easier…much easier for me to grasp $2.1B dollars disappearing than my mom forgetting who I am…yet it happened years now ago.
Join me in defeating this memory…and life stealer! There are many things we can do. Visit Alz.org for a long list. Something has to be done…

Update: They may have forgot me in the morning video calls. Everyone there is busy…I get it. 🙁 Wednesday we get to eat breakfast with mom, outside and 6′ apart and wearing a mask. Better than nothing 🙂 Joplin, to our west less than an hour, has the highest increase in new COVID cases in the US…so I have limited expectations that this will last.
Diet update: Lost 4.4 this week, putting me just over 70 lost. Moving right along 🙂
Last note: Losing things is the #7 sign that you have dementia. See the top ten list here.
OK…for real last note. For Father’s Day I got a Dad Jokes book. I will be adding one per post going forward in case my corniness isn’t extensive enough:
Q. Why can’t you trust atoms?
A. Because the make up everything!!!
😉
