“In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.” –Ecclesiastes 7:14
Happy Taco Tuesday to all! I did eat Mexican food today, but opted for a more WW-friendly choice. I hope you all are having a good start to this week. As a reminder, this new series is going through the warning signs of dementia found at this link: LINK. While these may seem a tad more dry than the usual happy slappy you have come to expect, I hope you can glean some good info and/or find something that does or doesn’t ring a bell when you evaluate whether you or a loved one have the early signs of the disease. (In reality I hope every last one of you say “Nope…that isn’t me!” as you read this series.) So off we go. 🙂
Today we focus on this sign: “Memory Loss That Disrupts Daily Life”. Allow me to start with the simple piece of comfort that we all forget things sometimes. I do it far too often for my comfort, given the propensity to have the disease in my family, but all is ok for now. It is for many… However, let’s talk memory aids.
How much do you need your memory aids to function? Do you have a single loved one that completely acts as your memory aid, without whom you wouldn’t function? I am not talking about a day planner because your day is super busy. I am talking about things like very basic to-do lists and the like. Do you make notes where you left things or how to get places? Do you have somewhere tangible that you store these aids that, if it was to be misplaced, it would severely disrupt your daily life? Again, I am not talking something merely sentimental like Linus’ blanket. I am talking about something that would devastate (not merely hinder) your daily existence if you misplaced it. Are you bound in this way? Please do me a favor…talk to your family and your doctor.
Just a quick note on passwords… I get having a password book or an account book…but, if you lost it, would you have a plan to work around it? My dad would just call me if he lost it…do you have such a plan?
I pose these questions, again, to point you to your plan. Medicine can’t fix dementia…but it can slow it down for you somewhat, in the early stages, and buy some better time at the “expense” of the worse time later. Please do it today.

Update: Nothing much to say today although tomorrow I get to hang out with mom outside and quite soon they may let us inside. Stinkin’ disease.
Weight Loss Update: Gained 1 pound and am THRILLED! I ate like I lived on a desert island over the weekend on my mini-vacay with my bride. To only gain 1 pound left me as proud as losing the 5 the previous week. 🙂
Dad Joke of the Day: I ordered a chicken and an egg from Amazon. I’ll let you know!
