Hi all! Today I am going to start my Memorial Day weekend a little early and am taking some time off next week as well. I need to remember self-care just like you need to remember it. I will be posting some past favorites in the meantime.
Memorial day weekend isn’t what it used to be. More and more it is just seniors at the cemetery. I wonder what my age and younger hasn’t embraced visiting loved ones that way. I would love to say it was a Christian revival because of which people recognize that their loved ones are not there, but are in heaven…but that isn’t it at all… My fear is that seniors have been devalued by many more that we used to see. There has never been more of a generational divide that now, at least form my perspective. I have witnessed overt and implied statements over and over again that “COVID (mostly) only kills seniors, most of which are in nursing homes. We need to end the shutdown now!!!(wipes off foam from mouth)”. While there is a partial grain of truth to that statement from a statistical standpoint, it also shows the value we place on seniors in some circles. It used to be that we circled the wagons and protected the weak. I won’t make you mad with my opinions on what has happened that has caused the mess in which we live now in this area, but there are some pretty common sense-ish obvious reasons…
Please have a great weekend! You are special and important to me and I want for you the very best 🙂

Update: Had a short, but nice video with mom and my sis today. Mom is still pretty tired and less focused than normal, but it always nice to tell her that she is loved and see her anyway.
Bonus note: May 22nd, 2011 is the date of the Joplin tornado…a day I will never forget. If you don’t know what it did, here is a video that shows it well:
