He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” -Rev. 21:4
The Springfield Missouri Walk to End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, 9/23 at 11am (in-person registration starts at 9:30)
“I walk so my kids won’t have to lose me the way I lost my mom. I walk so they won’t have to live with the cloud of Alzheimer’s over their heads their entire lives, wondering if they’ll get it. I walk so other families don’t have to endure the excruciating deterioration of a loved one. I walk so other moms, like mine, don’t have to be tormented with not knowing simple answers, be confused by normal circumstances and come face to face with the thought that there will come a day when they don’t recognize their own children & husband….I walk for my family. I walk for your family. I walk to raise money to find a cure and to help local families cope. I walk to raise money to find a cure. I hope you will make time to be part of the solution that I believe is coming. Because, if we don’t find a cure, every family will eventually have a very personal reason to walk. Every family will have a story like mine. Now is the time to find a cure. I hope you’ll join me in taking steps toward that.” -Ethan Forhetz, our emcee

If you would like to join my team, search for Never Gonna Give You Up in the team name search area…or just create a team for yourself. 🙂 There are no donations required although they are certainly appreciated. The walk itself is slow paced and lasts right at a mile-ish… We all even get free Pineapple Whip as we leave.
Here are a couple of posts I have added to my blog on the topic:
(Don’t use the signup links in these posts…use the one above instead. 😉 )

I can, with absolute certainly, tell you that better treatments and a cure are coming, and soon. I was just in St. Louis Friday discussing it with a few people who know MUCH more than I do. Here is my brain though, in case you doubt my knowledge:

Mom says “Get along little Doggie…get signed up today 🙂

If you have questions or concerns, if you have someone that needs help with the disease, or if you just want to say howdy partner, please call or text me at 417-955-2513.
It all starts again Saturday, fellow cow pokes. 9:30am is registration and booth visiting time (and just hanging out) and the event really gets movin’ at 11. Parking is best west of the Jordan Valley park at the ice park parking lot. It is free. The parking garage is more convenient, but it costs…
What is that sound you may hear off on the horizon? It sounds like a stampede, but it actually our teams marching into battle to beat this thing once and for all! See you there! 🙂
One more little thing…when you get registered, you will receive a whirlybird “promise garden” flower. This explains this cool part of the event:
“Walk to End Alzheimer’s events across the country feature a Promise Garden – a hands-on,
mission-focused experience that allows participants to raise flowers representing their
promise to remember, honor, care and fight for those living with Alzheimer’s disease and
their caregivers.
Through color, these Promise Flowers represent the diverse motivations of our Walkers:
(Blue) I have Alzheimer’s/dementia
(Yellow) I am supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s/dementia
(Purple) I have lost someone to Alzheimer’s/dementia
(Orange) I support the cause and the Alzheimer’s Association vision of a world without
Alzheimer’s”
The whole event is worth it just to see 1000 folks who care with their flower spinning at the same time. 🙂
