Mom’s new room is being decorated this week. In her current condition, really loves cute things. I mean, we all do, but mom has a special joy that she finds when she sees things with exaggeratedly cute features. My sis is bringing a Hello Kitty blanket and she put a bunch of super-cute appliques on the walls and it really sparked joy. 🙂
It is very interesting to me how things with big eyes and other features naturally spark joy, fear, or a mix. Check out this cute spider tutorial:
Can anything be cute…or scary…if you exaggerate its features? Any ideas out there why it seems to work so well with mom? Do others with dementia share this big-eyed joy? I will explore this this week a little.
Update: Mom had a good first day at the new location in the nursing home. 🙂 She has a new roomie I will call Mrs. Flintstone. She is uber-sweet and likely also has dementia although I am unsure. She, like mom, is not a flight risk, so she isn’t confined to the memory unit.
Sigh…what a disease.
I just love change! Just like those with the disease do.
Disclaimer: I am super tired….Thanks for swinging by the table today. The encouragement recharges my batteries.
