I took Mom for a field trip for her eye surgery follow-up today. No new pictures…just a thought: she had one repaired eye and still has one pretty bad eye. It can be challenging for a typical brain to cope with big differences in sight quality between eyes. In an Alzheimer’s/brain bandit patient, I expect the ability to compensate would be greatly hindered. As the disease progresses, balance already gets worse as the brain atrophies, especially in important areas like the cerebellum. Throw in vision issues, and a huge new villain shows up: the risk of falling. SeniorAge, my employer, stresses the need to seniors to avoid falling. Programs, accommodations, etc…, we help however we can. Keeping seniors from falling is mission critical in better long-term aging. If you need help with a senior in your life in reducing the risk of falling, call SeniorAge, or your local area agency on aging. Tomorrow. It is truly a big deal…
